Amnesty International: Many Women in Afghanistan Forced to Give Up Identities
Amnesty International stated on International Women's Day that many women in Afghanistan have been forced to abandon their identities and become invisible.
In a message issued on Sunday, 17 Hoot (March 8), the organization called for an end to human rights violations in Afghanistan. It said the Taliban continue torture, gender-based harassment, arbitrary detentions, and censorship without accountability.
The message noted: "Women have been deprived of almost all areas of life, and instances of torture and ill-treatment, arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, and censorship continue with complete impunity."
Amnesty International highlighted severe restrictions on women's freedom of expression, peaceful assemblies, and political participation, which persist without oversight. It added that the return of corporal punishments and the lack of an independent judicial system have worsened the situation, leaving victims without access to justice.
The organization emphasized that the international community's response to the Taliban's actions has been insufficient.
