EU Mission Extends Eid al-Fitr Greetings to People of Afghanistan
The European Union’s mission for Afghanistan extended Eid al-Fitr greetings to the people of the country via a post on X on Wednesday night.
The message wished Afghan families peace, happiness and comfort as they mark the holiday with the sighting of the moon and the end of the holy month of Ramadan. It conveyed the EU's warmest congratulations to every citizen of Afghanistan, hoping Eid al-Fitr would bring a new season of light, joy and calm after a month of fasting and prayer.
The post stated that the EU stands with the people of Afghanistan "today and every day," reaffirming solidarity with ordinary Afghans.
The greeting comes as many Afghans prepare for Eid under severe economic pressure, with rising poverty leaving countless families unable to celebrate the occasion in a normal way.
Since the Taliban’s return to power, Afghanistan has faced deepening economic hardship, shrinking job opportunities and heavy dependence on humanitarian assistance, placing added strain on households during major religious events. International organizations have warned that millions of Afghans remain in need of aid amid unemployment, food insecurity and declining purchasing power.
