Solar Year 1404 Saw Heightened Global Military and Political Tensions
Solar year 1404 was marked by significant military and political tensions worldwide, according to Amu TV.
A joint U.S.-Israeli airstrike on Iran killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in Tehran during ongoing nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington. The attack occurred in the first hours of strikes by American and Israeli fighter jets. Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the slain leader, was selected as his successor but was reportedly wounded in the attacks and has not appeared publicly. The strikes, now in their 22nd day, also killed a number of prominent Iranian figures.
Iran responded by targeting Israel and U.S. military bases in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Jordan. Tehran closed the Strait of Hormuz, stranding dozens of commercial ships and oil tankers and triggering a global oil crisis.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated: "I think we have won. We have destroyed their navy, annihilated their air force, and disabled their anti-aircraft defense systems. We have practically destroyed everything and are now operating freely. Militarily, all they are doing is disrupting the Strait of Hormuz; but from a military perspective, they are finished."
Reports indicate 3,220 people killed in Iran, including 1,398 civilians, with 18,551 wounded. Iranian attacks killed 13 American soldiers and wounded more than 200 others, while over 4,000 were wounded in Israel.
Other events included a short but intense India-Pakistan clash in Kashmir that ended after three days with a ceasefire, though tensions persist. Thailand and Cambodia saw border clashes resolved by a U.S.-mediated ceasefire, followed by further incidents. Sudan's civil war entered its third year, with hundreds of thousands killed and millions displaced. Ukraine's war marked its fifth year amid stalled peace efforts. A fragile Israel-Hamas ceasefire held after two years of conflict, despite occasional Israeli attacks in Gaza. U.S. forces arrested former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in New York on drug trafficking charges, drawing international reactions. New documents in the Jeffrey Epstein case named prominent figures, sparking controversies.
