KABUL — The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) stated that in 2025 it provided assistance to more than 20 million people in Afghanistan, including 11 million children.
In a report released on Sunday, UNICEF detailed that the aid encompassed education, health services, safe drinking water provision, and nutrition support.
The report specified that educational opportunities were offered to 442,000 out-of-school children — 65% of them girls — through 14,000 community-based classes. Access to safe drinking water was ensured for more than 2.1 million people.
UNICEF also treated 611,897 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition and supported 943,567 pregnant women.
Additionally, psychosocial and social support reached more than 2.2 million children and their caregivers via community-based programs and media initiatives.
UNICEF had previously announced that 3.7 million children in Afghanistan face severe acute malnutrition.
