The Israeli military said one Israeli soldier was killed in a Hezbollah drone explosion near the Lebanon border, bringing the number of Israeli troops killed in the ongoing confrontation with the group to 18.
Al Jazeera Media Network reported on Monday, citing the Israeli army, that the soldier died after a drone operated by Hezbollah exploded during hostilities along the border area.
The announcement came a day after Israel said it had carried out extensive strikes on more than 20 Hezbollah-linked sites across southern Lebanon as fighting between the two sides intensified.
According to reports, at least three people were killed in the Israeli strikes, including two emergency aid workers. The attacks reportedly targeted multiple locations in southern Lebanon, although further details on casualties and damage were not immediately released.
The Israeli military has previously stated that around 40 Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon had been targeted in recent operations aimed at weakening the Iran-backed armed group’s military infrastructure.
Cross-border fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has continued for months, raising concerns about the possibility of a wider regional conflict involving Iran and allied armed groups operating across the Middle East.
Hezbollah began launching attacks near the Israeli border following the start of the Gaza war, saying its operations were intended to support Palestinians and pressure Israel on multiple fronts. Israel has responded with repeated airstrikes and artillery attacks inside Lebanon.
