GHAZNI CITY — Officials in southern Ghazni province say around 40,000 new students will enroll in schools across the province with the start of the new academic year.

Ghazni Director of Education Mawlawi Nasir Ahmad Hussaini said during the opening ceremony that necessary preparations have been made and thousands of new students are expected to join schools in different parts of the province. He added that efforts are ongoing to expand education so more children can benefit from opportunities.

Hussaini acknowledged challenges, including a shortage of 1,100 teachers and about 15 percent of required textbooks.

Students at Hakim Sanai High School, Munir Ahmad and Ahmad Shuaib, complained that teachers often teach subjects outside their specialization and that textbooks are outdated. They urged authorities to address these issues.

Teachers Ahmad Jan and Baryalai raised concerns over low salaries and unfulfilled promises regarding land plot allocations, warning that unresolved issues will affect education quality.

Parent Saifullah expressed worries about the lack of laboratories, shortage of professional teachers and other basic facilities, calling for serious reforms to improve learning standards.

Ghazni province has around 700 active schools where nearly 14,000 teachers educate more than 450,000 students.
