Ceremony Marks Start of Afghanistan's 1405 Academic Year

KABUL (Afghan Verified) -- A ceremony marking the start of the 1405 solar academic year took place Thursday, the 6th of Hamal, organized by the Ministry of Education in Kabul.

Sheikh Mohammad Tawus Tariq, head of the Ministry of Education's office, stated the ministry's commitment to strengthening religious sciences and modern education. He pledged continued efforts in this sector.

Maulvi Sabghatullah Wasil, the ministry's deputy for finance and administration, said about one million new students had enrolled in the country's schools and madrasas over the past two solar years.

Attendees included Maulvi Abdul Salam Hanafi, administrative deputy of the Prime Minister's Office; Sheikh Noor ul Haq Anwar, head of general administration affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan; and Sheikh Shir Ahmad Haqqani, minister of information and culture.

Hanafi urged all Afghans to exert more effort in providing sound education to their children and advised teachers to treat teaching as a great Islamic responsibility rather than a mere duty.

Anwar emphasized that the educational curriculum requires deep consideration and should not be treated superficially. He said the previous administration's curriculum was imported from abroad and did not meet local needs, adding that work is ongoing to develop a needs-based curriculum. Anwar noted that countries prioritizing education have achieved positive results and affirmed the Islamic Emirate's commitment to the field based on past experiences.

Haqqani said the Islamic Emirate has provided good grounds for education and training in the country.

Officials across the event stressed the importance of thoughtfully preparing the curriculum.
