General Directorate of Traffic Police Urges Caution During Eid Holidays
KABUL (Afghan Verified) -- The General Directorate of Traffic Police has called on drivers to strictly adhere to traffic rules during Eid holidays to prevent accidents amid increased travel.
Spokesman Fazl Hadi Hamidi told Pajhwok Afghan News that traffic police will report for duty during the holidays to maintain order and ensure people can celebrate safely. He emphasized acting with caution year-round, particularly at night and during Eid, and complying with police regulations.
Hamidi warned against speeding, driving against traffic, unnecessary overtaking and, most importantly, giving vehicles to children. "Families who give vehicles to their children not only endanger themselves but also put the lives of other people at risk," he said.
The directorate reported that last year, during the four days of Eid al-Fitr, 80 traffic incidents occurred nationwide, killing 30 people -- 19 men, two women and nine children -- and injuring 155 others, including 117 men, eight women and 30 children.
Kabul residents expressed concerns about the risks. Ahmadullah, who plans to travel for recreation with friends, said many young people lack proper driving skills and knowledge of traffic rules. Shahidullah, another resident planning an outing, voiced hesitation due to rising incidents and urged drivers, especially youth, to drive cautiously.
