German Police Chief Links Heroin Price Surge in Germany to Afghanistan's Poppy Ban

Holger Münch, head of Germany's Federal Criminal Police, stated that a ban on poppy cultivation in Afghanistan has reduced heroin supply in the German market, driving up prices.

In an interview with the DPA news agency, Münch said the quality of heroin has also declined, with the drug increasingly mixed with synthetic compounds that pose serious health risks to users.

Experts have praised the Islamic Emirate's drug ban, saying it could lead to reduced global access to narcotics in the long term and create opportunities for more effective anti-trafficking efforts.

The Islamic Emirate has prohibited the cultivation, production, trafficking and use of narcotics in Afghanistan. In place of poppy farming, it has promoted alternative halal crops and provided support to farmers.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan has stepped up efforts to treat drug addicts. Under Islamic Emirate rule, the country has achieved its highest number of successful treatments to date, with the process continuing.
