Lebanese officials reported that Israeli airstrikes killed 254 people and wounded more than 1,165 others across the country on Wednesday, prompting Prime Minister Nawaf Salam to declare Thursday a national day of mourning. Government offices closed and flags flew at half-mast to honor the victims.
Three outlets -- Hasht-e Subh, Hurriyat and RTA -- cited Lebanon's Civil Defense and health ministry figures of 254 killed, while Khaama Press reported 182 killed and 890 wounded, mainly in Beirut and other areas. The attacks targeted residential and crowded zones, according to Hasht-e Subh and Khaama Press.
Over five weeks of conflict with Hezbollah, the total death toll in Lebanon stands at 1,739 killed and 5,873 wounded, the reports said.
The strikes occurred amid disputes over a U.S.-Iran ceasefire. U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated it excludes Lebanon, while Pakistan claimed it includes the country. Hurriyat reported Lebanon was included but Israel violated it. Iran's foreign ministry threatened to join the war if attacks continue, per Hurriyat and Khaama Press.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned the strikes, according to RTA.

Reliability assessment
All 4 independent Afghan outlets corroborate the core event of deadly Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon (182-254 killed) causing national mourning; named attributions (Lebanese PM Nawaf Salam, Trump, Netanyahu, Guterres) and official sources (Civil Defense, health ministry); minor casualty discrepancies do not undermine event confirmation.
The source language mixes facts with framing or advocacy wording. Hasht-e Subh: "Israel's killing machine" – hyperbolic advocacy phrasing portraying Israel as a relentless aggressor; "bombing in crowded areas" – emotionally loaded implication of targeting civilians.; Hurriyat: "Israel's Zionist regime" (pejorative label implying illegitimacy); "clear aggression" (value judgment on attacks, attributed to PM but framed strongly); these add emotional anti-Israel framing to the reporting.; Khaama Press: "heavy destruction, fires and panic" - vivid emotional imagery of chaos; "severe civilian losses and mass displacement" - mild advocacy framing of humanitarian impact; "risk of a wider regional breakdown remains high" - heightens tension with foreboding speculation.; RTA: "brutal and savage attacks" (بیرحمانه و وحشیانه): emotionally loaded adjectives framing the attacks as inhumane; "deadly attacks" (حملات مرگبار): repeated hyperbolic emphasis on lethality.
