Oman Foreign Minister: Doors of Diplomacy Still Open
Oman's Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi stated that the doors of diplomacy remain open amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States, emphasizing that war should not extinguish hope for peace.
In a post on X, Al-Busaidi wrote: "I want to say very clearly, the doors of diplomacy are still open. Negotiations in Geneva made real progress towards an unprecedented agreement between Iran and the United States, and although there was hope to prevent war, war should not mean the loss of hope for peace. I still believe in the power of diplomacy to resolve this dispute." He stressed that the talks should resume as soon as possible, as it would be "better for everyone."
Al-Busaidi's remarks followed U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement that Iranian leaders have requested negotiations, which Trump has agreed to. In an interview with The Atlantic magazine, Trump said: "They want to talk and I have agreed, so I will talk to them." He added: "They should have done this sooner, something that was very practical and easy, they should have done it before, but they waited too long."
The statements come as U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran enter their third day, targeting missile and nuclear sites as well as senior Iranian defense and political officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran has struck U.S. bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia, drawing condemnation from regional countries.
