Democratic leaders condemned the comments as xenophobic and disgraceful. The Council on American-Islamic Relations called them racist and dangerous.
Omar, one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress, and Tlaib, the first Palestinian-American woman in Congress, have repeatedly clashed with Trump on immigration, civil rights and U.S. foreign policy.
Trump's immigration agenda, including stricter border enforcement and expanded deportations, has faced criticism from human rights groups for disproportionately affecting minority communities.
