A 13-member mountaineering team has successfully climbed a peak of nearly 3,000 metres on Targan mountain, located in the Jaghatu district of Ghazni province. The expedition was conducted as a strategic training exercise designed to help local athletes prepare for national team qualification.
Haji Bilal Mujahid, the head of Physical Education and Sports, stated that the exercise is part of an ongoing effort to increase the number of athletes from Ghazni province who meet the necessary national standards. Mujahid mentioned that four athletes from the province had previously qualified for the national team, and the goal is to expand this number through such rigorous activities.
Farhad Azimi, the chief of the Mountaineering Federation, commented on the nature of the climb, stating that the Targan mountains are characterized by difficult routes and high altitudes. Azimi noted that these specific geographic factors provide a significant challenge to athletes, making the region an ideal location for testing their endurance and skill.
The climb serves as a critical benchmark for the participants' capabilities as they strive to meet the rigorous requirements for national representation. By tackling the challenging terrain of the Jaghatu district, the team aims to demonstrate their readiness for the national stage.
