The High Commission for Addressing the Problems of Refugees has reported the return of 535 families of Afghan refugees from Pakistan and Iran. The returns happened on Sunday, June 14, 2026. The families arrived through four main border crossings in Afghanistan.
The largest number of families, 464, entered the country through the Torkham border point in Nangarhar province. Another 44 families crossed at the Spin Boldak border in Kandahar province. 42 families used the Silk Bridge crossing in Nimroz province. 21 families arrived via the Islam Qala border point in Herat province.
Besides the families, 861 individual passengers returned through the Nimroz crossing on the same day.
Assistance was extended to the returning refugees by the commission. The aid included financial support, help with transportation, access to health services and the distribution of SIM cards for communication purposes.
Reports from the commission show a small variation in the total number of people who returned. One account puts the figure at 2,947 individuals while another lists 3,009 individuals from the families.
The commission has been active in providing support to returning families at the border points and also in the capital Kabul. The assistance aims to help the returnees settle back into their communities.
