Afghan Boxers Expand Protests, Demand Leadership Change in National Federation

KABUL (Afghan Verified) — Afghan boxing veterans and national athletes have joined ongoing protests calling for a change in the leadership of the Afghanistan Boxing Federation, currently headed by acting chief Qadir Sultani.

The protesters cite disrespect toward athletes and coaches, lack of facilities and harm to athletes under Sultani's tenure. Abdul Khalil Basiri, a boxing veteran, criticized Sultani for disrespecting athletes and coaches. Homayoun Alikhil, a national athlete in the +92 kg category, demanded a leadership change to ensure justice and improvement in the sport. Shakran Hotak, competing in the -90 kg category, also called for new leadership in the federation. Rashid Hotak, a 70 kg athlete on the youth national team, highlighted the absence of basic facilities after three years.

The group has sent formal complaints to Afghanistan International and urged the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports to appoint a more deserving and experienced leader.

The protests reflect growing dissatisfaction among Afghanistan's boxing community over the management of the sport.
