An Afghan delegation traveled to Brussels on the twenty third of June in two thousand twenty six for its first-ever visit to the Belgian capital. Zakir Jalali, Second Political Deputy at Afghanistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the trip as a key step in relations between Afghanistan and the European Union.
The journey followed an agreement with Germany and Norway that allowed Afghan diplomats to resume their work in those countries. During the visit the delegation held multilateral and bilateral meetings with representatives of European Union member states.
Discussions focused on the resumption of consular services for Afghans in Europe, confidence-building measures, and solutions for rejected asylum seekers facing difficulties. Jalali expressed hope that the meetings would lead to continued engagement based on mutual respect and mutual benefits.
He added that the approach could serve as a model for engagement with other European countries.
