Afghan National Athletes to Receive Annual Allowances After One-Year Delay
The Physical Education Administration announced it will pay the 1404 annual allowances to Afghan national athletes. According to the administration's statement, 3,268 athletes will each receive 13,200 Afghanis ($207) after a one-year delay.
Each national athlete receives 13,200 Afghanis annually. In recent years, these payments have been made annually through official ceremonies, though they have often prompted questions from athletes.
The payment ceremony began with athletes from the national deaf, rowing and ITF taekwondo teams receiving their funds on the first day. The administration stated the distribution will continue for athletes in other sports disciplines.
Sports officials at the opening ceremony pledged ongoing support for athletes. However, many believe the 13,200 afghanis amount has little impact on the development of sports in the country or athletes' progress.
Payments are now conducted via official ceremonies. During the previous government before the Taliban, such payments were also marred by controversies, with some athletes alleging fictitious national athletes in certain federations.
The administration provided statistics showing the total payable amount is 43,137,600 afghanis, which it has committed to distributing to the athletes.
