Ehsam Rahimi, Afghanistan's national taekwondo athlete, began his campaign at the Asian Taekwondo Championships with a win against a competitor from Japan. The match ended with Rahimi prevailing by a score of two to one.
In the second round, Rahimi encountered Jangir Khodayberdiev representing Uzbekistan. Khodayberdiev had progressed to this stage without competing in the opening round due to receiving a bye.
The championships are underway in Mongolia and will continue through May twenty five. These competitions double as qualifiers for the Asian Games set for two thousand twenty six in Nagoya, Japan.
Qualification for the Asian Games allows the top seven athletes per weight category to advance. The four medalists automatically qualify, and three more spots are allocated from athletes who reached the quarterfinals but did not advance further. The remaining positions in the quota will be filled based on results from the President's Cup tournament in Lahore, Pakistan.
