KABUL — Afghan and Uzbek merchants have signed contracts worth 25 million U.S. dollars in the pharmaceutical sector, Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Taliban, announced on his X account.
The agreements were reached during a bilateral meeting in Kabul between a delegation from Uzbekistan's Pharmaceutical Industry Development Administration and officials from the Taliban's Ministry of Public Health.
Abdullah Azizov, head of the Uzbek administration, stated that Uzbekistan will cooperate with Afghanistan in drug production and health trade contracts. Uzbek officials promised further cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector.
Fitrat's announcement highlights growing economic ties between the two countries amid Afghanistan's challenges in securing medical supplies. The deals come following shortages in Afghanistan's drug market after Pakistan closed border crossings amid clashes last year.
