A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan on the evening of April 3, 2026, with its epicenter in Badakhshan province's Jarm district. The quake, which occurred around 8:42-9 p.m. local time, caused tremors felt across Kabul, parts of India and Pakistan.

In the Gosfand Dara area of Bagrami district in Kabul province, the earthquake triggered a house collapse that killed eight members of the same family, including the parents and six children. A two-year-old boy was the sole survivor, suffering injuries and receiving treatment, according to Health Ministry spokesman Sharafat Zaman, Bagrami district chief Hafiz Mohammad Basharat and Kabul provincial officials.

No other casualties were immediately reported near the epicenter or in other affected areas. In Logar province's Mohammad Agha district, Hurriyat reported the quake fully damaged one house and partially damaged two others, with no injuries.

Separately, Hurriyat reported floods in Logar that damaged 300 houses and thousands of jeribs of agricultural land.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, citing data from the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society, said recent floods and natural disasters nationwide had killed 61 people, injured 116 and left four missing as of April 4. He reported 2,448 homes damaged or destroyed, 26,841 jeribs of farmland ruined and more than 1,000 livestock killed, with disruptions to roads in multiple provinces. Mujahid said departments of the Islamic Emirate were providing aid to those affected.
