Afghanistan Freedom Front suspends attacks during Ramadan and Eid
The Afghanistan Freedom Front announced it has unilaterally suspended its attacks during Ramadan and the Eid holidays to respect the "peace of mind of citizens."
The group emphasized that the suspension will continue unless its members come under attack or face direct threats to its individuals, positions, and bases.
It added that it will undertake "retaliatory and deterrent actions" proportional to the situation, time, and scale if it observes "provocative actions" by the Taliban, such as harassment, inhumane and violent treatment against civilians, especially women.
The Taliban have not yet responded to the Freedom Front's announcement.
This comes amid a UN Secretary-General's report on the situation in Afghanistan and its implications for international peace and security, covering August to October 2025. The report recorded 2,737 security and safety-related incidents, a 14.7% increase from the same period in 2024.
According to the report, anti-Taliban armed groups and fronts claimed responsibility for 41 incidents from August 1 to October 31, including sporadic hand grenade and shooting attacks on Taliban checkpoints and convoys, with 19 confirmed.
The report named groups including the Freedom Front, Resistance Front, National Battle Front, National Mobilization Front, Islamic Freedom Front of the People of Afghanistan, and Afghanistan Freedom Movement, which claimed attacks in Baghlan, Helmand, Herat, Kabul, Kandahar, Kunduz, Nimroz, Panjshir, and Takhar provinces.
