Relatives Question Circumstances of Man’s Death in Jalalabad
A man identified as Bashir Khan was killed on the night of April 24 in the Second Security District of Jalalabad, Nangarhar province. Relatives of the deceased have publicly questioned the circumstances surrounding his death, pointing to inconsistent explanations provided by local security authorities.
According to the victim’s family, Taliban officials presented three separate accounts regarding the incident. Authorities initially stated that Khan was killed during an exchange of fire during a security raid, later suggested he was shot after failing to stop at a joint checkpoint, and subsequently claimed he died while allegedly attempting a burglary. The family noted that the shifting narratives have complicated efforts to establish a clear timeline of events.
Relatives reported that an examination of Khan’s body revealed visible signs of physical abuse alongside gunshot wounds. They further alleged that local officials pressured them into signing a formal pledge not to discuss the incident with the media or pursue further inquiries. Taliban authorities have not released an official public statement regarding the death or the family’s claims. The relatives are currently demanding a transparent investigation into the circumstances of the killing, emphasizing the need for accountability and clarity. Local residents have also expressed concern over the handling of the case.
