More than 30 people were killed in clashes between protesters and security forces in Pakistan-administered Kashmir ahead of regional elections. The Joint Awami Action Committee reported that the deaths occurred around Rawalakot, with one security official killed and five wounded in Mirpur, where at least three protesters also died.
The elections have been divided into three stages due to security concerns, with the second round scheduled for August 2. Pakistan's PML-N secured nine of the 13 seats contested in the first round. The PTI boycotted the vote, citing irregularities.
