
Afghanistan Ranks Last in 2026 World Happiness Report
Afghanistan has ranked last among 147 countries in the 2026 World Happiness Report, scoring 1.4 out of a possible 10 points and earning the position of the world's unhappiest country.
The report, drawing data visualized by Visual Capitalist, is based on a global survey of more than 100,000 people. It assesses national happiness through key indicators including GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, social support and levels of perceived corruption.
Finland led the rankings in first place with a score of 7.8 points. Sierra Leone and Malawi followed Afghanistan at the bottom, both recording 3.3 points.
Among Afghanistan's regional neighbors, Kazakhstan placed 33rd, Uzbekistan 53rd, Kyrgyzstan 66th, Russia 79th, Armenia 89th, Georgia 91st and Azerbaijan 102nd. These positions reflect significantly higher happiness levels compared to Afghanistan's score.
The annual World Happiness Report provides a comparative analysis of well-being across nations, highlighting disparities in life satisfaction influenced by economic, health and social factors.
