Afghanistan's Diplomatic Missions Coordination Council Welcomes Extension of Sanctions Monitoring Team
KABUL (Hasht-e Subh) -- The Coordination Council of the Diplomatic and Consular Missions of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan welcomed the United Nations Security Council's recent decision to extend the mandate of the Sanctions Monitoring and Analysis Team.
In a statement issued on Monday, February 16, the council said the extension sends an important message that the international community remains united in its attention to Afghanistan.
The statement emphasized that, given Afghanistan's deep humanitarian, political and human rights crises, maintaining this mechanism is essential. It added that continuous international monitoring and pressure are particularly necessary to encourage movement toward a reliable political path for the country's future.
According to the statement, recent talks between the United Nations and the European Union have repeatedly stressed that Afghanistan's long-term stability depends on establishing an inclusive political framework and a "clear roadmap for representative governance."
The council stated that such progress, accompanied by full respect for fundamental rights -- including the rights of women and girls -- and adherence to international commitments, is essential for shaping international interactions and Afghanistan's gradual return to the global community.
