Amrullah Saleh's Green Trend claims Pakistan pursuing multi-faceted policy against Taliban, consulting opponents on post-Taliban arrangements
The Green Trend political movement, led by former Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh, stated that Pakistan is implementing a multi-faceted policy against the Taliban and holding consultations with opposition forces on governance and post-Taliban arrangements.
In a statement posted on the social network X on Monday, Green Trend outlined five parallel strategies Pakistan is pursuing. It claimed Islamabad has conditioned commercial and economic ties with the Taliban on the security and political situation, keeping key border crossings closed. This has reportedly made the Taliban more dependent on northern routes and Iran, increasing their vulnerability.
Green Trend further asserted that Pakistan has gained dominance over Afghan airspace, conducting selective strikes, while the Taliban lack effective air defenses and international legitimacy. The movement said Pakistan has secured domestic consensus and broad political support for its actions in Afghanistan and is seeking international backing for an anti-Taliban campaign.
According to Green Trend, Pakistan is positioning itself as a Western-backed hegemon in Afghanistan intent on destroying remaining U.S. and NATO infrastructure and equipment. It emphasized that no country provides meaningful support to the Taliban, which lacks both domestic legitimacy and international recognition, rendering Afghanistan under Taliban rule more akin to a territory without effective governance than a modern state.
Green Trend warned that the Taliban's continued arrogance, self-aggrandizement and political shortsightedness have squandered opportunities for an Afghan-led solution, potentially making reforms too late.
