At least 23 people were killed when a passenger bus plunged into the Padma River in Bangladesh's Rajbari district near Daulatdia.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. near ferry terminal number three in Daulatdia on Wednesday. The bus, traveling from Rajbari to Dhaka, fell from a ferry into the river.
Police inspector Russel Mollah said, "We have recovered 23 bodies so far. Some people may still be missing, while a few survived. As it is night, rescue operations have been partially paused, but a joint operation is ongoing."
Rescue teams, including fire service personnel and divers, launched operations shortly after the accident and continued searching for survivors and those still missing into the night. Authorities fear more passengers may be trapped in the wreckage.
The accident took place as the bus was on the ferry, highlighting risks at the busy river crossing point.
