At Least 50 Killed in Gunmen Attack on Village in Nigeria's Zamfara State

At least 50 people were killed after gunmen attacked the village of Tungan Dutsi in the Bukkuyum area of Nigeria's Zamfara state. The assault began Thursday evening and continued into early Friday, according to Reuters.

Attackers set homes ablaze and fired on residents attempting to flee, resulting in heavy casualties. Several women and children were also abducted during the raid.

Hamisu A. Faru, a lawmaker representing Bukkuyum South in the Zamfara state assembly, confirmed at least 50 deaths. He stated that the gunmen moved from village to village during the attack.

Armed groups known locally as "bandits" have increased raids in recent months, conducting mass killings and kidnappings for ransom in several northern states. Zamfara has been among the hardest-hit regions, with repeated attacks straining local security forces and heightening fears in rural communities.

Authorities have promised intensified military operations to address the violence, but such attacks persist despite these efforts.
