Bayern Munich defeated Atalanta 6-1 in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday night, March 10, at Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo.
Bayern dominated from the outset, scoring three goals in the first 25 minutes to prevent any comeback. Josip Stanišić opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a simple shot after a pass from Serge Gnabry. Michael Olise added the second goal 10 minutes later with a precise shot, and Gnabry scored the third in the 25th minute from a pass by Olise.
In the second half, Nicolas Jackson made it 4-0 in the 52nd minute. Olise netted his second goal in the 64th minute, and Jamal Musiala sealed the result with a precise shot in the penalty area in the 67th minute. Atalanta's only goal came late through Mario Pašalić.
Atalanta coach Rafael Palladino praised Bayern's performance, thanked the fans and said, "Bayern is a very powerful team and tonight's game was a tough challenge."
