Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has appointed the ambassador to Uzbekistan as the non-resident ambassador to Afghanistan. This appointment was formalized through a presidential decree issued on 21 Jawza 1405. Since Belarus does not maintain an active embassy in Kabul, all diplomatic affairs related to Afghanistan will be handled from the embassy in Tashkent.

Belarus maintains its status as an ally of Russia. It is also the only country that has recognized the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. Despite this recognition, the country has kept its diplomatic contacts with the Taliban limited. The primary emphasis in relations remains on economic cooperation between Belarus and Afghanistan.

Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov has stated that the annual trade volume between the two countries has reached 200 million dollars. This level of trade highlights the economic interests that Belarus seeks to develop further. The appointment of the non-resident ambassador is seen as a way to support these economic objectives through existing diplomatic structures in the region.

The move allows Belarus to continue its engagement with Afghan authorities without additional infrastructure in Kabul. Officials continue to prioritize practical cooperation in trade and other areas. The recognition of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan remains a unique aspect of Belarus's foreign policy regarding the country. Limited contacts are maintained alongside efforts to increase bilateral trade figures.
