Berlin Forum Highlights Support for Women in Afghanistan
The World Forum 2026, held in Berlin from February 15 to 17, gathered global leaders and activists to address threats to democracy, AI regulation and human rights.
Opening ceremonies featured former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who emphasized the forum's focus on the future of democracy and equitable wealth distribution. Hillary Clinton warned of serious threats to democracy from transnational autocratic alliances, including Russian influence and domestic sympathizers in the U.S., urging vigilance among advocates.
The forum also examined AI governance, seeking global regulatory frameworks to align technology with human rights and democratic values.
Afghan participant Parwana Ibrahimkhil Najrabi highlighted the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan, calling on the international community to withhold recognition of the Taliban regime. She warned that growing ties between regional countries and the Taliban could further erode women's rights and fundamental freedoms.
Delegates concluded that defending democracy, human rights and ethical AI use demands coordinated international action, awareness of authoritarian influences and support for vulnerable populations.
