Ceasefire in Lebanon Holds Amid Continuing US-Iran Talks

The ceasefire agreement in Lebanon has largely held since it took effect, with only minor violations reported by officials. This period represents the longest stretch of calm in the three months of conflict involving Hezbollah and Israel. A senior Lebanese security official indicated that adherence to the ceasefire has been almost complete since Saturday evening. Limited violations were noted, specifically an Israeli tank firing toward a village near Tyre and the launch of stun grenades in two other areas.

In southern Lebanon, a health official reported that relative calm has prevailed over the past few days. This official described the current situation as the longest ceasefire period seen in recent months. Despite these positive signs on the ground, concerns remain about the possibility of the war resuming in the near future.

Parallel to these events, talks between the United States and Iran are continuing in Switzerland. The ongoing conflict in Lebanon has tested a temporary agreement between the US and Iran regarding regional tensions. There are conflicting claims regarding the status of the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has announced that it has closed the Strait of Hormuz again. In contrast, US Vice President JD Vance has stated that progress has been made in ending conflicts in Lebanon and that the Strait of Hormuz remains open.
