Check Dam Handed Over in Faryab Province to Support Agriculture and Flood Control
Officials in Faryab province have completed and officially handed over a new check dam in Ghartpa village, located in the Khwaja Musa district. The infrastructure project was designed to manage seasonal water flows, mitigate flood risks, and support local agricultural and grazing activities.
Maulawi Jan Murad Waqar, head of the Faryab Provincial Directorate of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, announced the completion of the structure. Provincial authorities stated that the dam measures 42 meters in length and stands 7.5 meters high. It was constructed at a total cost of 2,289,356 Afghanis, with financial backing provided by an unnamed partner organization.
The primary objectives of the project include controlling flash floods, preventing soil erosion, and facilitating groundwater recharge. Local officials noted that the structure will help optimize the use of seasonal runoff, thereby improving pasture conditions and supporting sustainable farming practices in the surrounding area.
The handover marks the latest in a series of small-scale water management initiatives aimed at addressing environmental and agricultural challenges in rural Faryab. Provincial authorities emphasized that the dam will provide long-term benefits to local communities by stabilizing water availability and protecting arable land from seasonal weather impacts.
