Child Kalthum Dies After Airlift from Kandahar to Kabul Hospital
KABUL — Kalthum, a child airlifted from Kandahar province to Kabul's Child Health Hospital in Chorlake for treatment, has died, her family announced.
The uncle of the child confirmed on Facebook that Kalthum is no longer with them. The announcement followed her transfer yesterday by air ambulance after a successful operation.
According to details provided, Kalthum was initially treated in Kandahar before being transported to the capital for further care at the specialized Child Health Hospital located in Chorlake. Despite the successful completion of her operation, the child passed away.
The family shared the news publicly through social media, highlighting the tragic outcome despite medical efforts. No additional details on the cause of death or the nature of her condition were immediately available from the family statement.
This incident underscores the challenges in providing advanced pediatric care across Afghanistan, where patients from remote provinces like Kandahar often require air transfers to facilities in Kabul.
