China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for an immediate halt to military operations in the Middle East and urged all parties to return to dialogue, emphasizing that efforts to change the regime in Iran lack popular support.
Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of an important annual meeting in Beijing, Wang stressed respect for Iran's sovereignty and that of all countries. He stated that the war "should not have happened and it benefits no one," adding that force creates no solution and armed conflict only increases hatred and new crises.
Wang said the people of the Middle East are the region's masters, and its affairs should be determined by its countries without interference in internal matters. He urged parties to resolve differences through dialogue and achieve common security.
China stands ready to cooperate with Middle Eastern countries to "restore order to the region, bring peace to its people, and establish peace in the world," Wang said.
He also addressed the Palestinian crisis, stating that the two-state solution is the only fair and globally accepted method to resolve the issue, and reaffirmed China's support for the legitimate rights of Palestinians.
Additionally, Wang emphasized mutual respect in international relations, opposed exclusive blocs, and described Taiwan as a red line in China's foreign policy.
