Construction Begins on New Grand Mosque in Logar Province
Construction has commenced on a new grand mosque in Shah Mazar village, located in the Baraki Barak district of Logar province. The project is being developed on a 1,200-square-meter plot and is designed to accommodate up to 1,100 worshippers.
District Governor Mawlawi Noorullah Ghalib confirmed the project details, noting that the land was allocated specifically for religious use. He stated that the initiative is funded through contributions from a private businessman and local residents. The new facility will replace a historically significant mosque that had served the community for approximately 150 years. According to the governor, the original structure gradually deteriorated over time and sustained irreversible damage during periods of armed conflict, which ultimately led local leaders to approve the construction of a replacement.
The development reflects ongoing community-driven efforts to maintain religious and civic infrastructure in the district. Mawlawi Ghalib emphasized that the project was coordinated with local elders and residents to ensure it meets the needs of the population. Officials have indicated that the mosque will serve as a central location for daily prayers and religious gatherings once the construction is complete.
No specific completion date has been announced. Local authorities continue to oversee the progress of the site, with funding and logistical support remaining coordinated between the private donor and community representatives.
