
Death Toll from Nangarhar Floods Rises to 41, Taliban Press Office Says
Heavy rains and flash floods have caused casualties and damage in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province.
The Taliban press office in Nangarhar reported that the death toll from the recent floods and heavy rains has risen to 41, with 84 injured, including women and children. Hundreds of residents were rescued, the office said.
It detailed partial destruction of 2,113 houses affecting 2,703 families, damage to more than 14,000 hectares of farmland, 711 trees, irrigation infrastructure and livestock losses including 111 cattle, 160 sheep, 145 goats and 2,000 chickens.
Khaama Press reported that weather-related disasters across Afghanistan over the past two weeks, including heavy rain, flash floods, landslides, earthquakes and lightning, killed 148 people and injured 216. Nangarhar was among the worst-hit areas, with 24 deaths and 33 injuries there in the past two days, over 1,149 homes destroyed and more than 7,500 families affected.
Authorities warned of more severe weather ahead.
