Denmark's permanent representative to the United Nations, Kristina Markus Lassen, called for the immediate appointment of a new special representative for Afghanistan during a Security Council meeting. She said the step is necessary to advance the work of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan and to sustain political dialogue.

Lassen welcomed the Security Council's decision to renew the mission's mandate. She stressed the need for continued monitoring of human rights conditions, protection of civilians, and greater participation by women in diplomatic processes. The representative expressed concern over restrictions placed on women and girls by the Taliban, as well as risks of revenge and violence against women, children, journalists, human rights defenders, and health workers.

She cited recent events in Herat as an example of these risks. Lassen said support for the full participation of women, civil society, and minorities must remain a priority and referenced the importance of Security Council Resolution 1325.

The representative stated that a credible political path is required for any sustainable resolution of the crisis in Afghanistan. She urged the Secretary-General to appoint a new special representative without delay. The resolution extending the mission's mandate was prepared by China as penholder.

Reliability assessment

Single source but provides direct, on-record attribution with named public figure (Kristina Markus Lassen, Denmark's permanent representative) speaking at a UN Security Council meeting; core facts concern verifiable statements made rather than unconfirmed events.

The source language mixes facts with framing or advocacy wording. Amu TV: "deteriorating human rights situation", "serious concerns", "systematic restrictions on women's rights" – these phrases frame the situation with negative emotional judgment and advocacy for prioritizing women's issues.
