The European Union has allocated 20 million euros to the International Organization for Migration to assist Afghan returnees and internally displaced people.

The funding will support health care, emergency assistance, protection services, vocational training, and small business development, with attention to women and other vulnerable groups.

The assistance comes as Afghanistan faces a humanitarian crisis linked to large-scale returns from Iran and Pakistan, along with economic pressures and natural disasters.

One report noted that more than 2.8 million undocumented Afghan migrants returned in 2025, increasing strain on public services.

The same report stated that the new allocation forms part of more than 140 million euros the European Union has provided for displacement response in Afghanistan since 2022.
