Families in Khost Province End Decades-Long Feud Following Local Mediation
Two families in Khost province have formally ended a decades-long dispute following a mediation process led by local authorities and community leaders. The reconciliation involved the families of Haji Nurshah Gul and Baghdad Khan, residents of Laghori Pirano village in the Tani district.
The conflict spanned approximately twenty-eight years and resulted in two fatalities on each side. The dispute was resolved through coordinated efforts by the Provincial Directorate of Borders, Tribes, and Clans Affairs, alongside local government representatives, religious scholars, and tribal elders. The mediation process focused on establishing a formal agreement to halt hostilities and restore community stability in the area.
A reconciliation ceremony was held to mark the conclusion of the agreement. During the event, representatives from both families publicly pledged to abandon past grievances and coexist peacefully. Officials in attendance highlighted the importance of Islamic principles and traditional Afghan customs in resolving tribal conflicts, emphasizing that unity and forgiveness are essential for maintaining social cohesion.
The resolution of the long-standing feud is expected to contribute to broader efforts aimed at reducing inter-family disputes in the region. Local authorities have indicated that similar mediation initiatives will continue to be supported to address historical grievances and promote lasting peace among communities in Khost province.
