The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has issued a weather forecast for Afghanistan from February 16 to 22, warning of heavy rainfall combined with rising temperatures.
Issued on Tuesday, February 17, the forecast indicates that western and southern provinces face above-normal precipitation, which, alongside warmer conditions, may lead to rapid surface runoff and local flooding.
FAO stated that temperatures across the country will be 1 to 8 degrees Celsius above average, with southern and western provinces potentially exceeding 20 degrees Celsius. This could accelerate snowmelt, reducing snow reserves and soil moisture for the coming season.
In contrast, northern provinces and elevated central regions are expected to remain drier than usual, with below-average rainfall.
