The FBI has added fugitive Khalid Ahmed Satary to its Most Wanted Fraudsters list. This action comes due to his alleged role in a Medicare fraud scheme that involved over 547 million dollars in false billings for unnecessary genetic tests, illegal kickbacks, and improper claims.

Satary is said to have owned diagnostic laboratories that submitted bills to Medicare for genetic cancer tests that were not medically necessary. Promotion of these tests occurred through telemarketing efforts and health fairs. Kickbacks were provided to secure the referrals needed to generate the billings.

An indictment was handed down against Satary in 2019 by authorities in the Eastern District of Louisiana. The charges filed include healthcare fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to pay and receive kickbacks, and money laundering. His fugitive status began in late 2022 when he violated the conditions set for his pretrial release. Following the indictment, he had initially remained free but later absconded.

The matter is included in a larger nationwide crackdown on healthcare fraud. That initiative has resulted in charges against 455 defendants for schemes that allegedly involved at least 6.5 billion dollars in fraud. The effort seeks to protect federal healthcare programs from such activities.

Satary is believed to be overseas, possibly in Dubai. A reward of up to 150,000 dollars has been offered by the FBI for information leading to his arrest. His ties to the United Arab Emirates have made the search an international matter.
