FBI Warned California Police of Possible Iranian Drone Attack Plans
The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warned police departments in California that Iran may have considered launching a drone attack against targets on the U.S. West Coast in response to U.S. military strikes, according to a security bulletin reviewed by iBC News.
The bulletin, cited by iBC News, indicated that intelligence obtained in early February 2026 showed Iran apparently sought to conduct a surprise drone attack from an unidentified ship near U.S. coasts. Potential targets in California were not specified, and no further details were available on timing, method or possible perpetrators.
The warning comes amid reports that the Donald Trump administration has initiated military attacks against Iran, with Tehran responding via drone strikes on targets in the Middle East. The FBI's Los Angeles office declined to comment on the report, and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Separately, U.S. intelligence officials have expressed concerns over the increasing use of drones by Mexican drug cartels. A September 2025 security report reviewed by iBC News suggested some cartel leaders may have considered using explosive-laden drones against U.S. forces near the U.S.-Mexico border, an unprecedented scenario.
John Cohen, a former intelligence official at the Department of Homeland Security, told iBC News that the proliferation of drones could pose new threats to U.S. security and that the FBI warning could aid local preparedness.
