FIFA Fines Israeli Football Association 150,000 Swiss Francs for Discrimination Violations
GENEVA (Afghan Verified) -- FIFA's Disciplinary Committee has fined the Israeli Football Association 150,000 Swiss Francs and issued a warning for violating its obligations as a member federation. The decision followed claims of discrimination raised by the Palestinian Football Association.
The ruling stemmed from a proposal presented by the Palestinian Football Association at the 74th FIFA Congress, which prompted an official investigation by the FIFA Council. The committee determined that the Israeli Football Association breached Articles 13 and 15 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, citing insulting behaviors, violations of fair play principles and racist abuses.
In addition to the fine and warning, the Israeli Football Association must implement a comprehensive anti-discrimination prevention plan. This includes displaying a highly visible banner reading “Football Unites the World – No to Discrimination” at its next three home matches in FIFA A-level competitions. FIFA will approve the banner's size, design and placement prior to each match.
One-third of the fine must be invested within 60 days in anti-discrimination programs, including reforms, protocols, monitoring and educational campaigns in stadiums and official channels for a full season. The remaining two-thirds of the fine is due within 30 days.
FIFA emphasized that football has a responsibility to promote dignity, equality and mutual respect, particularly during periods of conflict and tension.
The Israeli Football Association has been notified of the decision, which is published on FIFA's legal portal and can be appealed to the FIFA Appeals Committee.
