First Major Convoy Transits Strait of Hormuz Since US-Israel War Against Iran Began
Ship tracking data has revealed that a convoy is currently traveling through the Strait of Hormuz. The convoy is made up of four liquefied gas carriers and several oil tankers transporting petroleum products and chemicals.
These ships are passing south of Larak Island in Iranian waters. The data from MarineTraffic is being used to monitor the movement of these vessels. This event is notable because it is the first major ship movement in the Strait of Hormuz since the US-Israel war against Iran started seven weeks ago. Furthermore, there are indications that more tankers will be coming from the Persian Gulf to pass through the same strait.
Iran has reopened the Strait of Hormuz after a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon that was mediated by the United States on Thursday. Before the war, the strait was used to transport one-fifth of the world's oil.
In comments made a few hours earlier, US President Donald Trump talked about relatively good news regarding Iran. He warned that the ceasefire might not be extended beyond Wednesday if an agreement is not reached.
