The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports that recent flooding in Nangarhar province has affected approximately 2,000 families. According to the organization, the floods caused extensive damage to residential homes, livelihoods, assets, and basic infrastructure, disrupting the daily lives of the local population.

In response to the emergency, the IOM has distributed relief packages to the affected families. The organization is also continuing to conduct comprehensive needs assessments within Nangarhar to identify the most urgent requirements and ensure that aid reaches those most in need.

Beyond the flooding, other severe weather incidents have caused casualties in the province. A lightning strike in the Momandrah district of Nangarhar resulted in the death of one child and left a woman and two other children injured.

The IOM's humanitarian operations are not limited to Nangarhar; aid efforts are also ongoing in Laghman and Kunar provinces, where similar flooding has occurred. These localized disasters reflect a larger national trend. The United Nations has reported that recent flooding across Afghanistan has affected more than 73,000 people, highlighting the country's extreme vulnerability to climate-related disasters and the ongoing need for humanitarian assistance.
