Recent floods and heavy rainfall across Afghanistan have killed 214 people, injured more than 300, and left 11 others missing, according to official figures released by the Taliban administration’s Disaster Management Department. The severe weather, which began on 6 Hamal, has impacted more than 20 provinces, causing widespread damage to infrastructure and agricultural areas.
In the past 24 hours alone, the latest wave of flooding has claimed 14 lives and left 11 people unaccounted for, while injuries have surpassed the 300 mark. The recent surge in water levels affected 10 provinces, destroying at least 50 homes, killing over 110 livestock, and damaging 307 acres of farmland.
Since the onset of the seasonal rains on 6 Hamal, authorities report that approximately 1,400 homes have been completely destroyed nationwide. The flooding has also damaged 372 kilometers of roads and ruined nearly 19,000 acres of agricultural land, compounding the humanitarian and economic strain on affected communities across the country.
The Disaster Management Department continues to monitor weather patterns and coordinate relief efforts in the hardest-hit regions. Local officials have urged residents in flood-prone areas to exercise caution as seasonal rains persist. Rescue and recovery operations remain underway, with authorities focusing on providing emergency shelter, medical assistance, and essential food supplies to displaced families while assessing further damage to rural infrastructure and public facilities.
