Floods Damage Roads in Ghor and Badghis; Officials Vow Repairs
Recent heavy rains and flooding have severely damaged transportation networks across several districts in Ghor and Badghis provinces, prompting local residents to call for urgent infrastructure repairs.
In Marghab district of Ghor province, residents report that hundreds of homes, agricultural fields, orchards, and access roads have been destroyed by the recent weather events. The damage has disrupted daily commutes and isolated communities, leaving locals to navigate compromised routes.
Similar conditions have been reported in Badghis province, where the Qadis road has sustained extensive damage. Residents describe large potholes and severed pathways along the route, which has doubled travel times and forced drivers to divert onto adjacent farmland to bypass blocked sections.
Provincial authorities have acknowledged the damage and outlined steps to address the infrastructure crisis. Mawlawi Abdul Karim Abu Shaib, head of the Ghor Public Works Department, stated that repair crews have been deployed to affected areas and that initial rounds of humanitarian assistance have already been distributed to impacted families.
In Badghis, provincial spokesperson Rahimuddin Rahimi confirmed that restoration plans for the Qala-e-Naw to Qadis road have been formally submitted to central authorities. He indicated that repair operations are expected to commence in the near future, though a specific timeline was not provided.
As communities in both provinces continue to assess the full extent of the flood damage, local officials have reiterated their commitment to restoring transportation links and supporting displaced residents. Residents, however, continue to press for faster action to reopen critical routes and prevent further economic disruption.
