Former Afghanistan Cricketer Shapoor Zadran Hospitalized in India for Rare Immune Disorder
Former Afghanistan international cricketer Shapoor Zadran is currently receiving specialized medical treatment in New Delhi for a rare and life-threatening immune disorder known as hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, or HLH. The complex condition has necessitated intensive care and multiple hospital visits since his initial admission earlier this year.
According to his brother, Ghamai Zadran, the former fast bowler was first admitted to a medical facility in January. He was later discharged but required an urgent return to the intensive care unit after his symptoms resurfaced and deteriorated. Ghamai Zadran confirmed that the infection has spread to the brain and includes a tuberculosis complication.
Zadran’s international career spanned more than a decade, during which he represented Afghanistan in 43 One Day Internationals and 37 Twenty20 Internationals between 2009 and 2020. His tenure with the national side featured a notable appearance at the 2015 Cricket World Cup, where he contributed to the team’s early global campaigns.
Reports of his hospitalization have prompted messages of solidarity from the broader cricket world. International players and officials have publicly expressed their support while medical teams in New Delhi continue to manage his ongoing treatment and monitor his recovery.
His family continues to monitor his progress closely as specialized doctors oversee the treatment protocol.
