Former President Karzai: Afghanistan's Progress Requires Women's Role in Various Fields
KABUL (Afghan Verified) -- Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai stated on International Women's Day that the country's future progress depends on women playing roles in various sectors.
In a message issued on Sunday, March 8 (17 Hoot), Karzai called on the Taliban to reopen schools and universities to girls and women in Afghanistan.
Karzai emphasized that women have historically played a prominent role in Afghanistan's development and progress. He added: "The ground should be provided for women's return to work and active presence in society so that our dear country, relying on the abilities and talents of its children, achieves progress and prosperity and is freed from external dependency."
The statement comes as International Women's Day is marked amid ongoing restrictions on Afghan women.
